Compress video

How do I compress a video online for free?+

Pick your video, choose the compression level (or a target size), and click compress. In seconds VideoLeve produces a smaller file ready to download, with nothing to install and no watermark.

Is there a usage limit? Is it really free?+

It's free and requires no sign-up — you can compress several videos a day. Each video can be up to 1 GB. Short videos are usually compressed right on your device, without using our server; whatever is processed on the server has a generous limit of 5 GB per day. If you hit it, just come back the next day — or take advantage of the Free Window: during off-peak hours your jobs run for free and don't count toward your daily quota. Very long videos (hours long) may also exceed our processing time — if that happens, we let you know and suggest splitting them with Trim and doing it in parts.

What is the Free Window?+

It's our way of rewarding people who use the site during quieter hours: outside of peak times, your conversions, trims, and transcriptions run for free and don't count toward your daily 5 GB limit. When it's active, a "Free Window" badge shows up on the site — it's automatic, you don't have to do anything. It's worth getting your videos done during those hours!

Does compressing a video lose quality?+

You're in control. In "Best quality" mode the difference is almost unnoticeable. In the more aggressive modes the file gets much smaller, with a proportional drop in quality — always shown before you download.

Which video formats can I compress?+

MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM, and most video formats. The result always comes out as MP4, the format most compatible with any device and app.

Is it safe? Are my videos stored?+

We don't store your videos. When your device can compress on its own, the video never even leaves your device. When processing is done on the server, the file is automatically deleted shortly afterward.

Do I need to install any software or create an account?+

No. VideoLeve runs 100% in your browser, on phone or computer, with no installation and no sign-up.

Does compressing video work on iPhone and Android?+

It works on both, right in your browser (Safari, Chrome…), with no app to install. On many phones a short video is compressed right on the device, without even uploading to the internet.

What's the best format to make a video lighter?+

MP4 with the H.264 codec is the ideal balance of size and compatibility — VideoLeve delivers it that way by default. In the advanced options you can choose H.265/AV1 for even smaller files.

Why won't WhatsApp send my video?+

Because it exceeds the maximum size WhatsApp accepts per send. By compressing the video first, it fits within the limit and sends without errors.

What's the maximum video size to send by email?+

Most providers (Gmail, Outlook) cap attachments at around 25 MB. VideoLeve automatically gets your video under that limit.

How do I send a video on Discord without Nitro?+

Compress the video so it stays under Discord's free limit. VideoLeve does this automatically.

Why does my video look blurry on Instagram?+

Because Instagram applies its own compression on top of the file. By sending a video that's already compressed and optimized, there's less left for Instagram to ruin, and the final quality is better.

Transcribe video and audio

How do I transcribe a video or audio into text?+

Upload the file (video or audio), the AI detects the language and transcribes the speech automatically. Then you download the subtitles as SRT, VTT, or TXT, right away, free and with no sign-up.

Is it really free?+

Yes, 100% free and with no sign-up. The transcription runs on our servers with an open AI, at no API cost to you.

Does it transcribe in Portuguese?+

It does, and very well in Brazilian Portuguese. The AI detects the language on its own and also works in dozens of other languages.

Can I transcribe audio only (MP3, a meeting, an interview)?+

You can. It accepts audio (MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG…) and video (MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MKV…). Great for an interview, meeting, podcast, or WhatsApp audio. Each file can be up to 1 GB.

Which subtitle files can I download?+

SRT (for video editors and YouTube), VTT (for web/HTML5), and TXT (plain text, no timestamps). All generated on the spot, right in your own browser.

What if the file is very long?+

The transcription runs on the CPU and has a time limit. If the file exceeds that limit, we let you know so you can split it into smaller parts (you can use the Trim tool) and transcribe each piece.

Are the text and the video stored?+

No. The file is deleted from the server as soon as the transcription finishes, and the subtitles (SRT/VTT/TXT) are generated in your own browser — none of the text is stored here.

Convert video

Which formats can I convert to?+

Among the most common: MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, and MKV, plus generating a GIF. The default output is MP4, which plays on virtually any device and app. Just pick the format and download, free and with no watermark.

Does converting lose quality?+

When the video just changes its "wrapper" (container), we copy the content without re-encoding — zero loss. When re-encoding is needed, the loss is minimal and controlled. It comes out ready to use.

What's the difference between MP4, MOV, and MKV?+

MP4 is the most compatible (plays everywhere). MOV is the standard for iPhone and cameras. MKV supports multiple audio tracks and subtitles, but not every device opens it. When in doubt, go with MP4.

Do I need to install anything or create an account?+

No. It's 100% free, no sign-up, right in your browser, on phone or PC.

Trim video and audio

How do I trim a video online?+

Upload the video, drag the start and end on the timeline to mark the section, and download just that piece. It takes seconds, it's free, with no watermark and nothing to install.

Does trimming reduce the video quality?+

No. The trimmed section keeps the original quality — you're left with just the piece you chose, exactly as it was.

Can I trim a video on mobile?+

You can. The timeline is easy to drag with your finger, right in your browser, with no app.

Can I trim several parts of the same video?+

For now you trim one section at a time. To stitch several pieces together afterward, use the Merge tool.

Crop video

What does it mean to crop a video?+

It means cropping the frame (the framing) of the video, changing the shape of the image — like making it square 1:1 or vertical 9:16. Different from resizing, which changes the resolution without cropping the image.

Which format should I use for each network?+

9:16 (vertical) for Reels, Stories, and TikTok; 1:1 (square) for the feed; 16:9 (horizontal) for YouTube. Just pick the crop in the preview.

Does the video come out with a watermark?+

Never. It comes out clean, with no logo and no watermark, free and with no sign-up.

Resize video

What's the difference between resizing and compressing?+

Resizing changes the resolution (e.g., 1080p to 720p), which already makes the file lighter. Compressing reduces the size by adjusting the bitrate, and can keep the resolution. You can use both together.

Does resizing make the video blurry?+

Lowering the resolution keeps it sharp on most screens. Increasing it can't create detail that isn't there. The aspect ratio is always preserved.

Which resolutions can I choose?+

4K, 1080p, 720p, 480p, and 360p, always keeping the aspect ratio. The lower the resolution, the lighter the file.

Extract audio

How do I extract the audio from a video?+

Upload the video, choose the format (MP3 or M4A), and download just the sound track. In seconds, free, with no watermark and right in your browser.

MP3 or M4A, which should I choose?+

MP3 is the most universal (plays anywhere). M4A (AAC) usually has slightly better quality at the same size. For maximum compatibility, go with MP3.

Can I extract the audio to transcribe it?+

You can. But if your goal is the text, you can send the video (or the audio) straight to the Transcribe tool, which already pulls out the speech and generates the subtitles.

Merge videos

How do I merge several videos into one?+

Upload the videos, order them by dragging, and download a single file with everything in sequence. VideoLeve normalizes different formats and resolutions before merging. Free and with no watermark.

Can I merge videos of different formats?+

You can. We standardize the clips (format and resolution) before merging, so there's no error or mismatch between image and sound.

How many videos can I merge?+

Several at once — just add them all and order them. Each file can be up to 1 GB. Just avoid adding up many hours at once: if it exceeds our processing time, we let you know and you simply merge fewer at a time.

Change speed

How do I speed up a video or put it in slow motion?+

Upload the video, choose the speed (from a very slow 0.25x to a very fast 4x), and download. We adjust video and audio together so they don't fall out of sync. Free and right in your browser.

Does changing the speed affect the audio?+

Yes, the audio follows the same speed, staying in sync. At high speed the voice sounds higher-pitched; in slow motion, lower.

Can I make just one part slower?+

The speed applies to the whole video. To adjust just one section, trim that piece first in the Trim tool and adjust its speed.

Video to GIF

How do I turn a video into a GIF?+

Upload the video, pick the section on the timeline by dragging the start and end, adjust the crop and quality, and download the GIF. All in seconds, in your browser, free and with nothing to install.

Does the GIF come out light enough to send on WhatsApp?+

It does. We optimize it automatically: short clips usually come out under 1 MB — the size that sends in a chat without lagging and opens fast for everyone.

Can I make the GIF square, vertical, or horizontal?+

You can. Crop the frame to 1:1 (square, works everywhere), 9:16 (vertical, for Stories and Status), or 16:9 (horizontal). Just drag the crop in the preview.

GIF or video: which uses less data?+

Curiously, a short MP4 video is usually lighter than the equivalent GIF. Use a GIF when you need the clip to play on its own in a loop, with no player — like in chats and emails.

Does the GIF come out with a watermark?+

Never. Your GIF comes out clean, with no logo and no watermark, free and with no sign-up.

Does it work on mobile?+

It does. The screen is designed mobile-first, with the timeline and crop easy to adjust with your finger.

Rotate and flip

How do I rotate a video that came out sideways?+

Upload the video and rotate it 90°, 180°, or 270° until it's straight. You can also flip it horizontally or vertically. Download it ready in seconds, free and with no watermark.

Does rotating the video lose quality?+

You can't tell: the image is simply rotated or flipped, keeping the original quality.

What's the difference between rotating and flipping?+

Rotating turns the image (90/180/270°), to straighten a video shot sideways. Flipping mirrors it like a mirror (left to right), useful for fixing a reversed selfie.
